Distracted Parenting

There is a very interesting observational study in the Journal of Pediatrics this month. Here is a Time article about the study. They found that the majority of parents were on their phones during mealtimes with kids, and that this smartphone distraction caused them to have predominantly negative interactions with their children. While I don't believe that every minute of our time needs to be focused on our children, smartphones have provided a new kind of distraction that has never before been present in human history and we have no idea what the consequences of our distracted parenting will produce in the next generation... Something to think about.
